Indiana Appellate Court Experience

For the second consecutive year, I had the incredible opportunity to take my students on an enlightening excursion to the Indiana Appellate Court on Wheels. There’s something extraordinarily valuable about experiencing firsthand the dynamics of a real court case – an insight that often remains beyond the confines of classroom walls.
Indiana has put forth a unique initiative, allowing the appellate court to make its way to different locations. This ensures that more people, especially students like mine, get to witness the judicial process up close and personal. It’s an educational venture that brings the textbook cases to life right before their eyes.
Our initial plan was to host this event at our school. It seemed like a perfect way to make the most of this educational opportunity. However, practicalities came into play. With certain security prerequisites and specific facility requirements, it was evident that our school might not be the ideal venue.
Thus, we transitioned our location to a nearby university. This change not only ensured the safety and efficiency of the event but also provided our students with an added layer of experience – visiting a university campus.
In essence, the Indiana Appellate Court on Wheels serves as a testament to the endless possibilities of experiential learning. It’s initiatives like these that make teaching such a rewarding journey, bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application.
